Unemployment Increases in Hingham

Like the rest of the area, Hingham saw a spike in unemployment in January.

Like the state as a whole, the jobless rate increased in Hingham during January.

According to statistics from the state’s Office of Labor and Workforce Development, the unemployment rate for the town increased from 3.6 percent in December to 3.9 percent in January.

In January 2014, the unemployment rate in Hingham was 4.9 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate decreased from 4.9 percent to 5.6, slightly above the national rate of 5.5. Of the roughly 3.6 million residents that make up the state’s labor force, over 3.3 million are employed while 198,200 are unemployed.
