5 Things You Missed at Selectmen Last Night

The board addressed taxes, liquor licenses and the casino proposal.

1. Although a meeting with NStar was on the original agenda, this hearing was once again postponed. Benjamin Palleiko mentioned there will be a Department of Public Utilities meeting tonight at 7 in Framingham to discuss NStar’s responses to and the . The meeting will be in Framingham's Walsh Middle School auditorium.

2. Selectmen held a public forum to discuss changing the . Residential and commercial properties currently share the same tax burden. This discussion revolved around the possibility of separating them to make a tiered system (one tier for residential and the other for commercial). After reviewing the data with members of the , selectmen voted against doing this. The presentation is available on the town’s website.

3. Selectmen approved the transfer of the liquor license at 70 Main St. The location used to be the , which closed several months ago. The building and the license have been sold to the WT Pond Corporation and will be reopened after some renovation as Old Town Liquors.

4. Selectmen also voted to revoke the license from Ciao Time at 28 Main St. The business has been closed for more than six months and state regulations do not allow the location to continue holding a license.

5. Chairman Todd Cestari brought up a discussion about the state’s governing bodies approving the  today. The governor is expected to approve the bill, paving the way for three casinos to be built across the state. One possible location for a casino is neighboring Milford.
