5 Things You Missed at the Selectmen’s Meeting
Selectmen discussed allowing a new restaurant to open and began to look at what capital projects could be discussed at the May town meeting.
In case you missed last night’s meeting we’ve got you covered. Here are five things the selectmen discussed that could impact you.
1. The selectmen heard from members of the Capital Improvements Committee and the Community Preservation Committee about an update on the fiscal year 2013 budget. The improvements committee said they have approximately $8 million worth of projects they are looking at for this budget, all of which will need to be voted on at the town meeting in May.
2. The Initiative 2020 Group presented an update of their work to help make Hopkinton more attractive to businesses. The group was founded last year and since then they have designed a logo and began talking to business groups. The 2020 group is made up of town officials as well as members of the business community and the Chamber of Commerce.

3. Head of the Hopkinton Marathon Committee Dorothy Ferriter and Town Manager Norman Khumalo presented a final version of an agreement between the town and the Boston Athletic Association in regards to the waivers and other aspects of the Boston Marathon. The selectmen approved this and formalized the procedure by which town organizations will be chosen for the waivers this year.
4. Owner of Paul Winshman presented his plans for a new business which will be located at 22 South St., and asked the town to approve a liquor license for the business which is to be called Zio’s Quatro. The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner.

5. Selectmen held a public hearing to discuss moving several telephone poles in Cedar Street. The poles are being moved because the road is going to be redone with the addition of sidewalks on the west side of the street. In approving the petition to relocate the poles across the street, the required that the streetlight that currently exists near Aikens Road be moved with the pole, and that residents be given proper notification of any service disruptions.
