5 Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 31
Kindergarten opens and the town is getting ready to accept your Irene cleanup debris.

1. Got brush from your cleanup? Officials have decided to open the Marshall St. recycling area for the drop off of brush only on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hours each day will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
2. The number of Holliston residents in the dark is dropping, but some may have to wait until Saturday, though NStar calls that a worst case scenario. The Nstar Website has a link to town-by-town updates.

3. It's the first day for the first timers as kindergarten opens for the new school year. Keep a lookout for small students under big backpacks. Or just look for the moms and dads with moist eyes.
4. The Water Commission meets at 6 p.m. and the Parks Commission will conduct some business at 7 p.m. Both meet in Town Hall.

5. Time is running out to nominate someone as Holliston's Citizen of the Year. Did someone go above and beyond in response to Irene? Maybe they should be recognized with this annual award. Nominations boxes are around town, but only for a few more days.
