58 Pot Plants Seized from Hopkinton Property

Hopkinton police seized 58 plants and nearly 30 ounces of marijuana after obtaining a warrant to search a property in town.

An investigation led to the seizure of 58 marijuana plants from an outdoor cultivation area on a Hopkinton property last weekend.

On Aug. 15, Hopkinton police, in addition to the 58 mature plants seized another 12 young plants and 30 ounces of marijuana inside the home on the property of 12 Fruit St. Nine of the ounces of pot were packaged and ready to sell.

Police entered the property after obtaining a warrant. Hopkinton police detectives were assisted by the Massachusetts Police Airwing and the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office.

The average yield of an outdoor cultivated plant is recognized by law enforcement to be 16 ounces of consumable marijuana. Based on the average street price, which is $250-$300 per ounce, this seizure would be valued between $239,000 and $287,000.

The residents were leasing the property, and are being charged with Possession of a Class D Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Class D Substance with Intent to Manufacture, and Conspiracy to Violate the Controlled Substances Act.

“This was an outstanding piece police work by lead investigator Det. Gregg DeBoer and Det. David Shane,” said Chief Lee in an announcement. “This is a huge seizure, preventing a sizable amount of illegal marijuana from making it onto the streets. The Hopkinton Police Department is committed to actively enforcing the State’s drug laws and keeping Hopkinton Safe.”
