VF: What is the team goal for season?
MD : We're focusing on having a really efficient pre-season. Last year was our first year with Coach Girard and his new offense, so it took us a few games before things really started clicking. This year we know what to expect so we just want to hit the ground running. I'd say our team goal is to win the TVL and go to the playoffs... and of course to beat Holliston and Ashland.
VF : As a three - sport athlete, is there anything in particular that you enjoy about football more than the others ?
MD : Football's my favorite sport so obviously there's a lot that I enjoy, but I love playing on Friday nights in front of everyone under the lights.
VF : Sounds like you guys are working hard in the off season. Has it always been like this?
MD : We've always worked hard in the off season, but this year I feel like we've really taken it to another level. Coach Girard really stresses that the off season is a time to work hard. This summer we've participated in a 7-on-7 league in Franklin, had a lineman camp throughout the summer, competed in a 7-on-7 tournament sponsored by Under Armour, and we have attended the Central Massachusetts Pre-Season Skills Camp as a team in Marlborough. We expect the hard work to pay off.
VF : When you break the huddle and come up to the line, what is going through your head?
MD : When I break the huddle, I already know what my guys are doing, and where they're going to be, so I really focus on what the defense is doing. I run through different defensive scenarios in my head so I'll be ready for anything that the defense may do.
VF : Is there a particular play or event that you remember most?
MD : It definitely was my sophomore year in Norton when I scored the game winning touchdown. With under three minutes left in the game, I dove into the end zone. I got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct but it was completely worth it.
VF : What are your plans after high school?
MD : I'm looking to play division III football.
