How many years have you been in business?

The current business model is entering its second year at Whitehall Farm Studios. This artistic endeavor has been in the making for three years now and has evolved in to the current studio. The four of us have been artists and/or teachers for the past 20 years in our respective careers. As our paths crossed (through other jobs and playgroups) our ideas flowered and this business was born.

What do you like best about owning/running this business?

We love the artistic camaraderie of being an art based co-op.  The beauty of this studio is the coming together of all of our artistic and educational degrees and backgrounds.  We are all mothers with similar objectives.  We strive to achieve an excellence in delivering quality based educational art programs to children and adults alike.  The best part is being able to share this passion with one another, our students and our own children.  Our hope is that this passion and love for the arts translates in to the lives and hearts of all who enter the studio.

We enjoy coming up with truly unique art experiences for our students.  With our combination of skills, our classes offer a mixture of art exploration, science, and art history.  It gives the students a really well-rounded adventure every time they come in.  It is also enjoyable to watch returning students get in to the Zen of art making, and come to us weekly for a relaxing and fun time.

Advice for someone new to the business?

The key to beginning a business like this is passion, tenacity, respect, curiosity and a love of teaching and learning from each and every encounter. You also need a fair amount of patience. As with anything new, there is a learning curve with starting a new business. With each endeavor, we all learn something new and grow together.

What do your customers like best about your business?

The quality of our instruction, the fun of it, and the laid back creative environment in which they can grow their own creative muse. The intimacy of our studio allows for a comfort level between the instructors and students. It lets students open up emotionally and artistically. Students leave with high quality projects they are proud of. What we hear most often from parents is how surprised they are by the overall quality of the pieces. They love bringing them home to frame or gift to someone special.
