A Spirited Small Business
Hopkinton Wine and Spirits is one of several area businesses participating in Small Business Saturday this year.

While most people think of Black Friday as the biggest shopping day of the year, small businesses are trying to improve their seasonal sales by taking part in Small Business Saturday.
Clelland Johnson, owner of is participating this year by letting customers know how much a small business can mean in the community and promoting a rebate offer through American Express. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Kathleen Reale is a Hopkinton resident who runs weekly wine tastings at the store. Johnson hand selects the wines for the tasting and he said he likes to choose a range of options.

"I pick wines from all across the price ranges and all around the world," Johnson said.
For the past few weeks, the tastings have been wines that Johnson said would pair well with a holiday dinner.

"There are some combinations that just don't go well; this is why people can try the wine and get an idea what we think will work with the food," he said.
The tastings occur weekly on Fridays; this week's was held earlier because of the holiday. The next tasting is 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 2.
