Dancing Arts Center Offering a Full Slate of Summer Classes

From June 27 to August 19, the DAC will hold a variety of dance programs for kids and adults alike.

For eight weeks this summer (June 27 to August 19), the (DAC) is offering something for everyone: Family Dance Camps in the early evening, single classes for ages 3 through adult, Choreography Workshops for emerging choreographers and the ever-popular dance camps/workshops.

Work-study and scholarships are available. Family discounts as well as government aide discounts are also available.

A summer camp/workshop is a rare chance for dancers (ages 3-20) to focus on dance, uninterrupted by the competing demands of school and other activities. Warm days rich in dance, music, choreography, stage-craft classes and the finer understanding of the body that comes from studying anatomy, physiology and nutrition combine for a powerful experience - even for the youngest students.

Students will learn about costume design, stage-craft, and dance history, and experiment with their own creative ideas. They will also enjoy seeing and discussing video recordings of classic and new dance performances that connect our students with dancers worldwide.

Upper-level students also take classes in classical ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, repertoire, and other character dance; learn advanced stage makeup and present an end-of-workshop performance in the studio theater. And when it's time for a break, dancers of all ages relax with picnics and massage workshops. It's a perfect way to make new friends, work hard on skills, learn something new and make summer count for something spectacular. Camps for young dancers run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Workshops for upper level dancers run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to the summer workshops, DAC is also offering a full array of single weekly classes. Tuition is prorated around your vacation, so there is no need to worry about paying for classes you can’t attend.

Classes include Creative Movement for 3-6 year olds, Pre-Ballet and Pre-Modern for 6-9 year olds, Classical Ballet for ages 8-adult, Modern for ages 8-adult, Ballroom/Swing for ages 8-adult, Jazz for teens and adults and Body Sculpting for teens and adults. Dancers who register for a dance camp/workshop and a single class or classes will receive a 10 percent tuition discount.

Dancers who wish to explore their own ideas of movement composition in a studio laboratory setting, exchange creative inspiration with classmates on developing pieces, and experiment with the influence of music, costume, props, space and more are invited to try one of our summer Choreography Workshops. Session 1 is July 25-28 and August 1-4. Session 2 is August 8-11 and 15-18. Each session is $100.

Families who dance together have fun together. Get the family together after dinner for fun, exercise, and a different shared experience each night: folk dancing, hip hop, line dancing and flamenco. Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. from July 11-29. Make this the summer to remember. Tuition is only $65 for the first family member, $60 for the second family member, $55 for the third family member, and $50 for all other family members.

DAC maintains its own picnic and playground area for outside fun and dance improvisations; studios that are clean, bright and air-conditioned; and stage craft and costume development space to inspire.
