The gallery space at the Pejamajo Cafe in Holliston features paintings by Holliston's David Bastille for the month of August 2011.
David is an art director at Sundin Associates, an advertising and marketing firm in Natick. He grew up in Wellesley and has lived in Holliston since 1987. He first studied oil painting at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1977. The following year, he began what has become a 33-year career in graphic and advertising design, in and around Boston. While his commercial work has taken precedence, he has never stopped painting, and has devoted increasing amounts of time, energy, and resources over the years to making art. He works out of a studio in his home.
Dave says, “Each of my paintings tells a story, sometimes tinged with themes of loss. I often work from my own photographs, and I’m attracted to views of structures and places that have been overlooked, abandoned, or emptied. Probably I’m delving into my own past when I go exploring to find such scenes, and when I paint pictures of them; in any event, the whole process feels like it belongs to me, yet I know these paintings can also touch a chord in others.”
