Race to Nowhere

The Holliston PTSA is sponsoring the film, Race to Nowhere on Monday, April 25th at 7 pm with a panel discussion to follow.

Race to Nowhere is a film by Vicki Abeles, a mom who was inspired to learn more about the increasing pressures being placed on children after her daughter complained of being overworked at school and a local teen committed suicide.  The film is a chance to open a dialogue about how we might work together to address the culture that  increasingly pressures our children  to succeed in ways that were virtually incomprehensible just a few generations ago. These days, every child is led to believe that if they fail to get good grades in school, they won't get into a good college, and will have no hope for a happy future. And with each grade the child advances, the pressures only increase. Tragically, this trend has only served to make cheating more widespread, made our children more susceptible to stress-related illnesses, and spiked the teen suicide rates. By engaging teachers, parents, and students in an honest discussion of the problem and possible solutions, Abeles aims to find out what we can do to once again get our nation's children excited about the learning process.  Don't miss out on this film.
