Explore Your Creativity at the Cosmic Sister

This week, we spoke with Holliston's Rae Finn about her art studio and thrift store.

How many years have you been in business? I started the in Webster, MA in 2000.  It was always my part time job up until 3.5 years ago.  I am now at the studio/store full time.

How did you get started? Art had always created a sense of  inner peace for me.  With the stress and craziness of life, I decided I wanted to share the magic of this inner peace and creativity with both children and adults.

Do you live in Holliston? I grew up in Holliston, left for a few years but came back of course.  I happily live in Holliston with my 3 children ages 12,14,16.

What do you like best about owning/running this business? I have a strong “desire to inspire” and the Cosmic Sister is a place where you can connect to this inspiration.  Leading people to discover their inner artist through creativity is extremely rewarding.  I also enjoy helping people find unique threads  at  the lastest addition to the studio, “the Cosmic Sister’s Closet” resale boutique, where it’s hip to be frugal.

Are you on Facebook/Twitter? the Studio is currently on Facebook as the Cosmic Sister.  Hoping to create a page for my thrift store soon.  We do list store events on the Cosmic Sister page.

Any advice for someone new to the business? Stay focused! Being an artist often times I am overloaded with ideas which becomes a distraction from what currently is important. Keep idea journals and never stop believing. There is honestly nothing better than doing what you love.

What do your customers like best about your business? The studio is a place where you are encouraged to color outside the lines, let your creativity flow freely and simply chill out. We also have the coolest bin of recycled goods to create with!

Anything else you'd like us to know? The studio offers Monday-Thursday after school classes. Both instructional and whimsical. Friday afternoons the studio is open to grades 6-8 for ART CLUB. Walk from school, grab a snack and hang with friends in a creative environment. We also have Spirit Art Diva Workshops for adults. Scheduled or you can book your own. If you're thrifty, I am constantly altering pieces in the Cosmic Sister’s Closet, so the inventory is always changing.
