Hopkinton Patch: How is the basketball season going so far?

Jason Dlugolecki: We just had our first scrimmage and we won the first half by around 20. We only allowed 10 points and we had great ball movement. Our offensive execution was excellent. We struggled on the boards and turned over the ball in the second half. We lost the second half by 5. We need to put together an entire 32 minutes if we want to find success this season. That is our goal.
Patch: When did you start playing basketball?
Dlugolecki: I started playing basketball when I was young for the YMCA. I also played throughout my younger grades and participated in AAU programs in the spring and fall.
Patch: Who influenced you the most?
Dlugolecki: My two brothers influenced me the most. Both of my brothers were very talented basketball players and played for Hopkinton in high school. One of my brothers was captain. I also admire Sam Cassell, an NBA player who was in the league for a long time.
Patch: If you weren't playing sports where would you turn your focus?
Dlugolecki: I probably would play golf. I am also interested in writing. I have published several articles for a few local town newspapers.
Patch: Although last year was a successful season, do you feel you have unfinished business?
Dlugolecki: This year I am trying to take things game-by-game, and not focusing on the end result. Our team is scrappy, tenacious and I am looking forward to a successful season.
Patch: What is your most memorable moment in basketball?
Dlugolecki: I would have to say, playing at the TD Garden last year. Even though we lost the game, it was amazing to be surrounded by family and friends cheering us on.
Patch: What advice do you have for younger student athletes?
Dlugolecki: My advice would be to never give up. There are a lot of kids with raw talent who stop participating in sports because of the intensity. These kids need to stick with it and continue their conditioning even though it may seem difficult.
Patch: What are your plans for next year?
Dlugolecki: I am looking at D1 and D3 schools to attend.
