Hopkinton High Girls Tennis at 1-1 After Win in Norton
Hillers sports canceled Wednesday afternoon after heavy morning rain. Reschedulings below.
Hopkinton High School girls tennis won its first victory of 2011, 5-0 over Norton. The two teams played in a Tri-Valley League match Monday afternoon at Norton Middle School.
The win made the Hillers 1-1. Hopkinton opened the season Friday afternoon with a 4-1 home loss to Medfield.
The Norton Lancers dropped to 0-3 and 0-2 in league play.

“It was great to get that first win,” Hopkinton head coach Nancy Clark said. “This will be a confidence builder for the kids and it will help them relax."
The best match of the day was third singles with Hillers junior Maddie Schneider battling Norton freshman Olivia Christy. Schneider won the first set 6-1 and a tough second set 7-5.

Hillers sophomore Denny Lamachia defeated Lancers sophomore Verena Wagmann 6-0, 6-0 at first singles.
Hopkinton scored at second doubles as senior Jessie Hibel and junior Katy Cook defeated Tory Carlson and freshman Nicole Kiley 6-0, 6-0.
The third Hiller point came at first doubles where juniors Bevy Reynolds and Abby Normandeau beat Norton junior Allie Capprini and senior Emily Anderson 6-0, 6-1.
Hopkinton junior Emma McWilliams and Norton junior Kristen Tenglin had a good match at second singles with McWilliams coming away with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
“We knew coming into the match that Hopkinton had not graduated many kids from last year,” said Norton head coach Everett Clark. “So with that in mind, I thought our kids did well. ... We are a young team and Hopkinton has a deep program.”
Both teams were scheduled back in action Wednesday afternoon but all Hillers sports were postponed because of heavy rain early in the day. Hopkinton girls tennis will host Holliston Friday afternoon at 3:45.
