Update: Hopkinton High School Alum Wins PGA Tournament
HHS class of 2004 alumni, Keegan Bradley, won the PGA Tournament yesterday.
Keegan Bradley, class of 2004, walked away with the 93rd PGA title last night after defeating Jason Dufner in a three-hole playoff.
Bradley, who comes from a long line of golfers including Hall of Famer and LPGA champion, Pat Bradley, and PGA professional, Mark Bradley, (his dad), secured the win after back to back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. Bradley won the tournament by one shot.
The Bradley's came to Hopkinton for Keegan's senior year when his father took a job at the Hopkinton Country Club.
Dick Bliss, the Hopkinton High School golf coach, noted that Keegan and his father, Mark, have made a great impression on the game of golf in town.
"Yesterday, I wanted to watch the game at home," Bliss said. "I had watched the other games at the country club, but the finals I watched with my wife and it was just so, so exciting. Keegan is such a determined player and yesterday was really the culmination of a dream for him."

Bliss, who watched the game start to finish and has watched it a few times since, notes that Keegan is the player that he is because his father was always willing to help out.
"His dad carted him place to place; golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter," Bliss said. "I remember his dad always being helpful to me and always willing to help the kids (HHS golf players) out. He would help out anytime; on season or not. Keegan, he was a hard worker. No one worked harder than he did."

Bliss also notes that he had the opportunity to coach an amazing team in the fall of 2003 when both Keegan, Jon Curran and Kim Donovan all played.
"I had three nationally ranked golf players in 2003," Bliss said. "We created such a winning tradition, and now golf is so big here that I have 43 kid trying out later in the month. The worst part is I can only take 20 or 21."
Next for Bliss? First, an interview with Fox in a few minutes. Then, a busy coaching season that may or may not produce another PGA champion.
"You just never know," Bliss said.
Bradley was ranked 108th going into the tour, and came out the third American to win on his first try in nearly 100 years. He is now ranked 29th.
His Twitter feed this morning reads, "pgachampion, triplebogies, happiness."
Keegan was named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic player of the year in 2003 for his role in Hopkinton High School golf.
"Bradley led his Hopkinton squad to the first state golf championship in school history this year," the Boston.com/Sports article said. "And he captured the Division 2 individual crown for himself with a round of 69 at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club Oct. 28. The Hillers finished 21 strokes ahead of Central Catholic for the title, and Bradley was two strokes up on teammate and fellow Globe All-Scholastic Jon Curran. In his first year at Hopkinton, Bradley's stroke average this fall was 35.5. He has finished as high as fifth at the Vermont State Amateur tournament and has placed in the top 15 five times at AJGA tournaments."
