Hopkinton Police Log: Drunken-Driving Arrest, Sex Offender Warrant

Thursday, Oct. 4

2:01 a.m.: Donald Scott Syphers, 57, of 108 Stevens Rd., Canaan NH was arrested on a fugitive from justice court warrant. He had been charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

8:21 a.m.: An officer assisted the Hopkinton Fire Department with a motor vehicle off the roadway on a ramp to Route 495.

11:15 a.m.: An officer checked a vehicle that was parked on Main Street. The officer advised the owner that he could not drive the vehicle because his license was expired.

3:14 p.m.: A caller reported a deceased raccoon on the side of Frankland Road.

4:45 p.m.: A 911 caller reported an erratic driver on Elm Street. Officers and spoke with the operator who had just purchased the vehicle.

7:20 p.m.: A caller reported an erratic operator on Spring Street. Officers checked the area but could not find the vehicle, Westborough Police were advised that the vehicle may have entered their town.

7:53 p.m.: An officer assisted the Southborough Police Department with a search for an unwanted solicitor.

Friday, Oct. 5

8:52 a.m.: An officer responded to a two-car crash on Main Street. No injuries were reported.

4:22 p.m.: An officer responded to a two-car crash on East Main Street. No injuries were reported.

6:16 p.m.: An officer from the Hopkinton Police Department responded to a report of cars doing donuts in EMC Park. Officers stopped the vehicle that matched the description and arrested Robert G. Wills, 17, of 33 Blueberry Ln. Wills was charged with drunken-driving and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

6:31 p.m.: An officer assisted with a “very minor” crash on West Main Street.

9:14 p.m.: An officer checked the Smith Road area for a barking dog complaint.

Saturday, Oct. 6

1:13 a.m.: An officer checked a vehicle by the curves on Cedar Street. The officer spoke to the operator who was a fisherman.

10:05 a.m.: An officer moved a branch on West Main Street that was creating a hazard for drivers.

2:32 p.m.: An officer notified the Massachusetts State Police about a report of lumber in the road on Route 495.

Sunday, Oct. 7

12:42 a.m.: An officer saw a person running down West Main Street wearing a striped yellow shirt. When the officer passed by the person took off in to the woods.

9:41 a.m.: A caller reported that the street sign at Greenwood and Wedgewood Drive was pulled out of the ground along with the callers mailbox. A message was left for the Department of Public Works. It appeared as if the caller’s mailbox had been vandalized.

1:27 p.m.: A caller reported that they had just had some items stolen on Main Street.

5:48 p.m.: A caller reported a large truck parked in the roadway on West Main Street. The caller said the driver had run in to the woods. When an officer responded the truck was gone.

7:03 p.m.: A 911 caller reported a suspicious vehicle that had driven down her driveway on West Elm Street and a passenger got out. When the homeowner opened her door the person ran in to the woods and the vehicle took off. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the people in question.

7:58 p.m.: A caller from North Mill Street reported that her Boston terrier was missing. Animal Control was notified.

6:26 p.m.: A caller reported that there was a vehicle pulled over on the side of Dicarlo Road. The vehicle reportedly took off when the caller walked by. Officer searched the area but did not find anything suspicious.

9:17 p.m.: An officer responded to a car vs. deer crash on Route 495 with the Massachusetts State Police. The vehicle was towed.

9:42 p.m.: An officer responded to a second car vs. deer crash on Route 495. The vehicle had a cracked gas tank. The Fire Department responded and the vehicle was towed.

10:40 p.m.: A caller reported that a car pulled in to his driveway on McHugh Lane and turned around several times. The caller said there were several youths in the vehicle yelling and screaming. An officer responded and spoke to the youths who said they were at the wrong address.
