Hopkinton Standoff: Walcott Street Man In Custody
A family argument turned into a two-hour standoff Wednesday afternoon, police said.

HOPKINTON, MA – A two-hour standoff in Hopkinton came to a peaceful end Wednesday afternoon, leading to one arrest, police said. Officers responded to Walcott Street around 12:15 p.m. after callers said their 69-year-old father had gone into a small building on the property after an argument turned violent. The family members told police there were guns in the building and they were concerned for their father's wellbeing.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and several nearby homes were evacuated. The man refused officers' initial requests to surrender, according to a Hopkinton police press release. At that point SWAT was called to the scene.
Police made several unsuccessful attempts to negotiate by phone. They then used a vehicle-mounted public address system to communicate with the man. At approximately 2:30 p.m., he surrendered and was taken into custody without injury, police said.
