Keefe Technical Employees To Participate in Fitness Program

Free Keefe Tech program is designed to improve employees' health and lower healthcare costs.

employees will participate in a no-cost five-week fitness program that is designed to encourage them to develop healthier lifestyle behaviors, which may in turn help the school control its healthcare costs, according to a press release.

Keefe Technical School recognizes that encouraging employees and their family members to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors through engaging wellness and fitness programs conveniently offered at the work site may help them create new habits.

Over the long-term, such changes can improve employees’ health and quality of life, and may lead to bottom line savings on the school’s health insurance costs.

The Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, the school’s health insurance provider, offers the fitness programs at no cost as a membership benefit.

Superintendent James Lynch said, “A healthy employee is a happy employee. I am pleased that many of our employees are participating in this opportunity to exercise, stay healthy and have fun at the same time. It is an added advantage to have fitness programs available at our facility at the end of the work day.”

According to Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association Health Benefits Trust resources, individuals who do not exercise spend 10 percent more on health care and use twice the amount of sick time than those who do exercise regularly. In addition, regular exercise can help prevent the risk of disease, such as diabetes.
