LaCroix Continues Legion Tradition
For 40 years, Holliston baseball players have found a home at Ashland Legion.
This week’s Patch story on and his summer exploits for the Ashland American Legion baseball team is representative of what is now a 40-year tradition.
It was in 1971 when Arnold Baker, an Ashland native and selectman started the team, and provided a baseball home for high school players who believed there was more to summer than work and the beach.
From the beginning his roster was filled with Holliston players.
Kurt Kurzontkowski was among the first, pitching and playing first base for the “Careymen” as they were referred to in the local news.

Familiar Holliston names such as Tutuny, Caldwell and McDonald soon graced the box scores, and the seeds of a tradition were sown.
