“Each of my paintings tells a story, sometimes tinged with themes of loss," said Bastille. "I often work from my own photographs, and I’m attracted to views of structures and places that have been overlooked, abandoned or emptied. I’m delving into my own past when I go exploring to find such scenes, and when I paint pictures of them. In any event, the whole process feels like it belongs to me, yet I know these paintings can also touch a chord in others.”
