Local Artists Display Work in Hopkinton Gallery

More than 30 members of the —a group of creative people from local communities who have a desire to share their craft—have work displayed at the annual . 

Kris Waldman is the director for the CAA and said this show is different than others.

“It’s not a juried show,” Waldman said. “This year was said that any member could show one piece of their choice and we got a great response.”

Normally for an art show, a piece needs to be submitted to a jury that will either approve or reject it, but Waldman said they wanted to allow more freedom for the artists.

In the past, the show has been for members of the CAA, but this year they opened it up to a larger group of artists who fall under the Center for the Arts umbrella, including members of .

While there was no performance art in the show, some ESL members did submit work to be shown.

The artwork shown is mostly paintings and drawings using different materials, but there are several 3-D pieces as well as a number of photographs.

All of the work in the member show is for sale, ranging from $60 to $1,000.

The Center for the Arts, through community based shows and events such as the Members Art Show, is trying to raise enough money to improve the buildings in which members work. The most immediate plan is to update the old barn on the property and making it into a small theater and other practice spaces.

Waldman said the group is 77 percent of the way toward their fundraising goal, and has found a donor who will match any donation between $5,000 and $100,000 that comes in before the end of the year.
