Maeve Gilchrist to Play at 1728 Coffee House

The following is a press release from the promoting its 1728 Coffee House. Celtic/jazz musician Maeve Gilchrist will perform at the event, which will be held March 12:

Maeve Gilchrist has toured Europe and America. She’s played for the Scottish Parliament, opened festivals, and on March 12, Gilchrist will be performing at Holliston’s own 1728 Coffee House.

The 1728 Coffee House, a project of the First Congregational Church’s outreach efforts, is located in the church’s own Jordan Hall (725 Washington St.). The coffee house features local and regional musicians in an affordable venue.

Past types of featured music include jazz, blues, Irish, and folk music. Gourmet desserts, appetizers, coffee and teas are available for sale. The 1728 Coffee House occurs three or four times per year and the proceeds of each event benefit a local charity. Volunteers organize, staff, and provide food, making the 1728 Coffee House a truly community-centered event.

Gilchrist will appeal to fans of Celtic music as well has jazz aficionados. As a Celtic musician, she studied the harp in her home country of Scotland. What sets her aside from other harpists and Celtic musicians is the influence of her love for American jazz. The harp playing of Gilchrist is undoubtedly Scottish, however the jazz is incorporated into the music.

“The most enjoyable thing about a Maeve Gilchrist concert is seeing how much she enjoys performing, singing, playing — and I do mean ‘playing,’ as in taking hairy risks and messing around,” says Willam Cutlip in a review. Other critics describe her work as unique, ethereal, and colorful.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the performance will be from 7:30—10 p.m. Attendees who purchase six or more tickets may reserve a table for themselves and their guests.

The proceeds of this event will benefit the Appalachian Book Project, which provides gently-read children’s books to needy Appalachian schools as well as to other child programs.
