Princess Tea Party Kicks Off Library Fundraising

With the library in the pipeline for state money in several years, Hopkinton residents have begun working to raise money to help augment the library renovation.

When Laura Barry moved to Hopkinton five years ago, she knew she wanted to take her two young daughters . What she didn’t know was that she would have to carry them, their strollers, and everything else up the stairs to a crowded children’s room shared by many.

Since then Barry has worked hard to improve the library’s situation. She has been a member of the board of trustees, a member of the Friends of the Hopkinton Library, and is on the board of directors for the newly reformed Hopkinton Library Foundation. The foundation was developed to help with “long-term assistance to the library, to enable and augment the town’s money and continue down the road,” Barry said.

“As a foundation we’re going to be holding events to not only raise money, but also awareness for the problems that the current library building is facing,” she said.

The library is which Barry said is expected to come sometime in the 2014 to 2016 range. After that there will be a six-month window for the town to approve the rest of the cost of the library and then a one-year period for construction to begin.
