Service with a Side of Gelato

Dolce Tempo, a European-style gelato and coffee shop, opened in Holliston on Monday.

While many in neighboring Hopkinton were gearing up to race 26.2 miles on a grueling hot Marathon Monday, Hollistonites were standing in line patiently to try the town’s newest offerings: ice cream, gelato, pastry and other treats from the newly established Dolce Tempo.

Dolce Tempo, or "sweet treat" in Italian, celebrated their grand opening on Monday to a room full of joyful people enjoying the taste of the North End in their own backyard.

“I have lived in Holliston for nine years,” owner Konstantinos Migos said, “And I found it frustrating that I couldn’t find a cup of ice cream or something sweet when I left work at 10 p.m. We want to be a fun, energetic place that folks can come to early in the morning or late in the evening."

Migos and his brother Louie are the owners of and they are excited to be in Holliston.

“We felt the town needed something more fun,” Migos said. “We are trying to have a North End feel and we want to be more energetic with more of a European flair.”

The Kostas brothers also feel strongly about keeping prices reasonable.

“People, in this economy, are having a little bit of a hard time,” Kostas said. “It’s hard to go out for a scoop of ice cream at $2.50 or $3.00.  Our price is $1.99 for a scoop. We hope that will help people out.”

Originally from Greece, Kostas explains that he was so close to Italy that he had a real taste for what they offered and wanted to bring that to America, he also believes strongly in customer service.

“Service, service, service,” Kostas said. “That is what we are all about. We offer all different types of coffee; cappuccino, espresso, etc…the idea is to try different techniques. Many of our coffees are imported from Italy.”

Kostas is a fun guy and the atmosphere of Dolce Tempo reflects that with music playing, happy people and lots of energy.

“My day starts at 5:30 a.m. when I head out to the North End for pastry,” Kostas said. “But it’s worth it because we want this to be a real family place. My brother and I own it with my wife and his fiancée. We want people to enjoy coming here.”

Along with gelato and other Italian products, Dolce Tempo, serves up a modern flair, with menus on TV’s rather than laminated paper and a modern design.

One look at the Holliston Happy Facebook page, and it’s clear that Dolce Tempo has been well received.

"Thumbs up for the new ice cream place, Dolce Tempo," Susan Andrew writes. " We went today for the first time... great ice cream, good atmosphere, and friendly service!”

Dolce Tempo, located at 1576 Washington St.,  is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. To learn more about them visit their Facebook page.
