Three for Free
This week, The Realty Deal fills you in on some free ways to educate yourself, improve your home and protect your most-prized investment.
There are some cool and helpful resources in the world right now that could not only help us and our homes, but also our environment and the planet. Here are three that are free!
- One of best things you can do for your home is called an Energy Audit and the best part is they are free. Just call NStar (781-441-8720), which will put you in contact with a company that will come to your home and spend a few hours going through your home from top to bottom.
The inspectors will: 1) inspect your furnace and A/C unit; 2) go into your basement and look for small holes or spots where heat is being lost; and 3) inspect your windows and make sure you have the proper insulation in your walls.
We had this done last year and after the inspection, they came into our home and replaced all of our old light bulbs with the new energy efficient bulbs (CFL). You may also need new windows, a hot water tank or something else that will make your home more energy efficient.
The inspector will also explain that there are tax credits available from the government, which also offers interest-free loans to get some of the aforementioned items taken care of.
The Energy Audit is a great resource and a good way to get some updates and upgrades for your home. We did the energy audit and got almost $1,000 worth of items/services for free. Plus, we are also wasting less of our planet’s resources. - Another great free resource is , which is being held at the on July 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Almost anything from aerosol cans to weed killer will be accepted.
- And lastly, is offering Home Buying and Selling Workshops with guest speakers who can answer your questions.
There are five dates being offered:
- Saturday, April 16 from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Saturday, April 23 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
- Thursday, May 12 from 7 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, May 21 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
- Saturday, June 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
There will be experts available to explain how to get a mortgage and how to clean up your credit report. There will be an attorney who will explain the ins and outs of buying a home in today’s economy. And, of course, realtors will be on hand to explain what needs to be done to prepare your home for sale and what you should look for when buying or selling your home.
Our local community is simply amazing. Sometimes we become so busy that we don’t take the time to poke out our heads and see what amazing resources are there right under our noses. Come explore these wonderful gifts we have and feel free to share them with friends.
If you have any free events, send them in and I will share them with our community. Until next week!
