Waste Treatment Facility Approved for Clinton Street
As the Legacy Farms construction project begins to take shape one of the first building that will be on line is the sewage treatment plant.

When the new water treatment plan comes online in September it will be able to process 150,000 gallons of effluent a day; not that it will need to immediatly.
approved the 3,100 sq. foot plant last night after Executive Director of Legacy Farms LLC Steven Zieff presented the building plans and designs.
Zieff said if the plan gets all of the necessary approvals excavation should be able to begin at 29 Clinton St. by the end of the month.

Zieff’s team of engineers created a plant that is designed to look like a barn from the outside and blend in with the other buildings and scenery in the area.
“It’s going to be raised up above the surrounding area and it is designed to look somewhat iconic so we believe it will be an asset to the area,” Zieff said.

The plant will take sewage from the entire Legacy Farms community and ultimately be able to process up to 290,000 gallons per day, but Zieff said they don’t expect it will ever reach that capacity.
Neighbors of the plant were present at the meeting to ask Zieff various questions about the safety of the plant and the chemicals that will be stored there.
“None of the chemicals stored in the building are combustible or present any explosion hazard,” Zieff said. “We opted to go with sugar instead of anything flammable to help the process.”
The plant uses a serious of filters to process out the bad chemicals and when water leaves the plant it is at a drinking quality standard.
“The water that comes out of this plant is probably cleaner than the stream that runs behind the plant,” Ken Wesmantel, chairman of the Planning Board said.
