Welcome to "What We Learned This Week," a recap of the top articles on the site over the last seven days. This week, we have stories on a motorcycle crash on Curve Street Friday, the premiere of the Holliston Arts Council's Summer Concert Series on Tuesday and Stoddard Park's brief closure due to a high bacteria count.

We also have the latest on the legal status of the suspect who led Holliston police on a manhunt June 24 and a summary of the strategic improvement ideas Police Chief John Moore presented to the Board of Selectmen Monday night.

  1. A 50-year-old Holliston man was flown to UMass Worcester Medical Center following a motorcycle crash on Curve Street Friday morning.

    Holliston Fire Chief Michael Cassidy, Deputy/EMS Supervisor Jim Moore, the ambulance, and paramedics from the Ashland Fire Department responded to the crash at 9:28 a.m.

    The Ladder company and rescue trucks were summoned to remove a section of guardrail and free the driver. At 10:07 a.m., the man was taken to a landing zone at the Warren School in Ashland.

    The man was then taken byMedFlight to UMass Worcester.
  2. — After being closed on Tuesday due to a high bacteria count, 's beach was reopened for swimming Thursday afternoon.

    Following its weekly test Monday morning, the found the beach exceeded the 235 colony per 100 mL limit for E. coli bacteria, said Health Director Ann McCobb Wednesday.

    Those results came back Tuesday afternoon, showing 344 colonies per mL, which forced the immediate closure of the beach. Stoddard Park was re-tested Wednesday, with Thursday afternoon's results showing only 128 colonies.
  3. The Holliston Arts Council kicked off its Summer Concert Series Tuesday night at with the cover/R&B band Guilty Pleasure.

    The event featured a strong turnout, with many people bringing picnic baskets and spreading out on the green. An ice cream truck was also close by for desert.
  4. — With the heading into a period of transition over the next few years, Chief John Moore presented several ideas to the Monday night, including a strategic improvement plan and a process to fill a Lieutenant's position that may open up in June 2012.
  5. — A Holliston man was arraigned Monday morning in Framingham District Court (FDC) after allegedly assaulting two Holliston police officers and a Sherborn officer June 24.

    According to FDC records, 27-seven-year-old Robert F. Haberski Jr., of 419R Washington St., pleaded not guilty to three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a felony), domestic assault and battery, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct followingthe June 24 incident.

    Haberski was released on $1,500 cash bail and will return to FDC for a pretrial session on August 1, according to court records.
