1. Vehicle donation program to support student learning in Holyoke (thereminder.com) — Holyoke High's Dean Tech campus is getting a steady stream of forfeited vehicles from the Hampden District Attorney's Office, giving students hands-on training in auto collision and diesel technology. Over the next five years, Holyoke Public Schools will use, repair, and possibly resell these cars to strengthen vocational programs and better prepare students for automotive careers.
2. Drug arrest made in Holyoke (newportdispatch.com) — Holyoke police arrested a Springfield man after a midday drug investigation and foot chase that began in Soucy Park on Clemente Street and ended with his capture off Cabot Street. Officers say they recovered suspected heroin, fentanyl, crack cocaine and cash, and noted the man also had an active warrant from Holyoke District Court.
3. Tiny Water Droplets Can Ground Billion-Dollar Supersonic Vehicles. BU Engineers Are Working to Change That (bu.edu subscription) — Cutting-edge aerospace research at Boston University is relying on a supercomputer housed in Holyoke to model how tiny water droplets can damage supersonic vehicles. While the work focuses on rockets and high-speed aircraft, it also highlights Holyoke's role as a regional computing hub supporting major scientific projects with national and commercial implications.
4. October 7 Is the Date: Massachusetts' Highest Court Will Hear the Holyoke Man Denied a Carry License Over Decade-Old Charges That Never Led to a Conviction (usacarry.com) — A Holyoke man's denied license-to-carry application is now at the center of a Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court case that could reshape how police chiefs statewide judge "suitability." Holyoke Police Chief David Pratt's decision, based on decade-old charges without convictions, is being challenged as unconstitutionally vague and overly discretionary, with gun-rights groups arguing it threatens due process for applicants across Massachusetts.
