About the concerts: American Experiences
Symphony Pro Musica is excited to perform their second concert of the 25-26 season in celebration of America’s 250th birthday with works by American composers Charles Ives and Aaron Copland, and joined by rising-star violinist Joshua Brown performing Dvorak’s Violin Concerto.
The concerts will begin with pioneering New England composer Ives’ Variations on “America” which embraces the many faces of American patriotism from profound to humorous and Copland’s Billy The Kid Suite, which portrays the rollicking energy of the Wild West.
The second half of the concert is the previously mentioned Dvorak Violin Concerto, While it was not composed during Dvorak’s stay in the US, the concerto is imbued with the same spirit as his New World Symphony and American String Quartet. SPM is excited to welcome silver medalist of the 2024 Queen Elizabeth Competition, Joshua Brown. Brown has been praised by audiences and critics worldwide for his “richness of sound, elegance of reading…commitment of every moment at the service of the work…” (La Libre). A free pre-concert talk will be held 45 minutes prior to the performance and a reception will follow where concertgoers can meet Mr. Brown.
