Beloved Irish Folk Singer Returns to Ipswich for Mother’s Day Peace Concert

IPSWICH, MA – Tommy Sands, the legendary Irish troubadour and peace activist, is returning to the North Shore for a special performance focused on reconciliation and hope. On Friday, May 8, 2026, at 7:00 pm, Sands will bring his signature blend of Celtic folk and storytelling to the Ipswich Community House for a concert honoring the spirit of Mother’s Day and the pursuit of peace.

The performance comes at a poignant time, just days before Mother’s Day, a holiday Sands views as deeply connected to the work of peace-building. Drawing from his own upbringing in County Down, Sands often reflects on how the influence of parents and neighbors can bridge even the deepest divides.

“Peace is like a little baby that slips and stumbles before it learns to walk,” says Sands. “But with enough helping hands, it’ll learn to dance. It starts with the seeds of freedom and justice we sow in our daughters and our sons”.

For more than five decades, Sands has used music as a thermostat to help regulate the "temperature of the times," moving beyond logical arguments to reach the heart. His work has famously brought together opposing political factions in Northern Ireland, proving that a single song can often soar higher and express pain better than words alone.

The upcoming concert will feature Sands’ repertoire of iconic peace anthems, including “There Were Roses,” a stirring tribute to friendship amidst the tragedy of “The Troubles,” and “Your Daughters and Your Sons,” a song celebrated globally for its message of equality and hope for future generations.
