2 Firefighters Injured, 40 Displaced by Apartment Blaze

A three-alarm blaze ripped through an apartment building in Boston Friday afternoon, injuring two firefighters and displacing 40 residents.

According to the Boston Fire Department, the blaze broke out at a brick building on 6 Waverly Street in the city’s Roxbury section around 12:30 p.m. Waverly Street is located just two miles from the Jamaica Plain line.

Crews were able to successfully extinguish the fire after a brief period of time at the scene.

More than half of the apartment building sustained some sort of damage after the fire started on the top floor and spread to the roof. Fire officials say eight of the buildings 16 apartments were damaged by the blaze.

Two firefighters suffered shoulder injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

No residents were injured.
