Boston Police Officer Under Investigation Following Shooting Near Public Pool

Officer Ydritzabel Oller, who works out of Jamaica Plain, was attending her nephew's memorial when gunshots rang out.

A member of the Boston Police Department is on paid leave, and now the center of an internal investigation, following a shooting which took place in broad daylight near the Melnea Cass swimming pool on August 17.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans told the Boston Herald that Officer Ydritzabel Oller, who works out of Jamaica Plain, will be investigated for her recent actions.

Multiple gunshots rang out while Oller was attending a memorial for her 20-year-old nephew, Angel Oller, who was the victim of a fatal shooting earlier this month. The gunshots sent children and parents ducking for cover at the crowded public swimming pool located on the Jamaica Plain/Roxbury line.

“We’re looking into what happened that day. It’s an Internal Affairs investigation. Obviously she had family involved, and we’re looking into what role she played because we have strict rules when you have intimate members of your family involved,” Evans told the Herald.

Evans says investigators are reviewing surveillance footage to ensure Oller followed department rules and regulations on the day of the shooting.

“Basically, you have to separate yourself. So, there’s not only issues about what occurred but whether she should have moved away from that scene,” Evans added.

Angel Oller was killed back on August 12 in Egelston Square.
