Boston Retirees Give to Obama, Money Men to Romney

If you know a Boston retiree who donated to a presidential campaign, he or she probably gave to President Barack Obama.

According to an analysis of recent Federal Election Commission data, eight out of 10 presidential campaign dollars given by Boston residents who listed their occupation as “retired” landed in Obama’s war chest.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney raised the largest chunk of his Boston money through the end of June from attorneys ($55,000), but that same group gave more than twice as much to the sitting president ($129,000).

Romney trailed the sitting president in most categories until we reach his seventh-most active donor profession: finance.

Boston donors who listed their occupation as “finance” gave more than $25,000 to Romney while donating just $4,000 to Obama.

The former governor also hauled more than the president with analysts, investment advisors and private investors.
