Bostonians to Protest Against Police Violence

Juneteenth anniversary rally set for Saturday.

A Juneteenth anniversary rally will be held in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood on Saturday as local residents will gather to protest against police violence.

Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation to free all slaves reached the state of Texas two years late on June 19, 1865. Juneteenth marks the 150th anniversary of the declaration.

Members of Mass Action Against Police Brutality are set to rally at 1 p.m. The protest will begin at the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard and Washington Street and come to a close at Franklin Park, Mass Action said.

Mass Action has requested that Massachusetts’ attorney general, Maura Healey, appoint a special prosecutor to review past officer-involved shootings. If warranted, the group wants Healey to prosecute officers for their actions.
