Owner Katerina Iliades, whose family has served the Boston Greek community for decades, says many of the foods enjoyed during Lent reflect long-standing Greek culinary traditions. “Lent is a forty-day season leading up to Easter when many families embrace traditional fasting foods rooted in the Mediterranean diet,” says Iliades. “The dishes enjoyed during this time — from beans and vegetables to seafood and olive oil — have been part of Greek culinary traditions for centuries.” During the Lenten season, many Christians avoid meat and dairy, turning instead to a vibrant variety of Mediterranean dishes that are naturally plant-based and deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition. At Greek International Food Market, customers can enjoy a wide selection of traditional homemade Lenten meals including: Okra in tomato sauce Greek string beans (fasolakia) Stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) Giant beans baked in tomato sauce (gigantes) Bean salads and Mediterranean vegetable dishes The market also carries a large variety of Lenten pantry staples and imported Greek products, including vegan Greek pies, Mediterranean vegetables, canned and dried beans, and an extensive olive bar featuring a wide selection of Greek olives. Imagine a late summer day: you're on your way home from work, the sun is just setting, and you're daydreaming about a sundae from J.P. That's the magic of August Noise JP - bringing the joy of unexpected music straight to you. Last night was our 2012 season premiere, and we took off running with Boston's very own <a href="http://augustnoisejp.org/people/redline" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Redline Brass Quintet</a>. For an audience, we had everyone from runners and cyclists to truck drivers rolling down their windows, as well as the occasional dog perking its ear at a trumpet call.
