Chinese Takeout: A Story in Every Box
Community storytelling project Planet Takeout hit JP for First Thursday to find out your thoughts on Food Wall, scallion pancakes and lucky pigs. Do you ever hit "The Wall?" Tell us about it!
Hello from Planet Takeout!
We’re thrilled to introduce ourselves to you and start connecting with the JP community.
A little about us: Planet Takeout is a documentary project that aims to turn local Chinese takeouts into spaces for community storytelling. The radio and multimedia project documents the lives of both the takeouts’ immigrant workers and their customers from the surrounding neighborhood, as well as the relationships between them. We hope the project will give some insights into the immigrant experience, as well as strengthen local neighborhoods.

Nothing beats hitting “The Wall”
We hit the streets of JP yesterday to check out First Thursday and get the scoop on the local takeout scene.

We found Ella Hosford at where she told us about her love of Hyde Square favorite and their scallion pancakes. But she didn’t always love Chinese takeout.

We found Ysmael Ortiz snapping an Instagram picture of the pig on the counter at Food Wall while waiting for his order. We asked him to share it with us by tagging it #planettakeout – look familiar?
Ysmael also shared this photo of his delicious dinner, courtesy of “The Wall.”
The missing ingredient: You.
We’ve just begun collecting JP stories and photos, and we need you to help us complete the picture. Here’s how you can participate:
-- CALL US: 617-477-8688
Leave a story on our call in line. It can be a story about last week’s spring rolls or the first time you remember eating Chinese takeout.
