Extreme Makeover - Bridge Edition

Gus looks into the camera and says –“ I know you and your family have given so much to this community, coaching T ball and soccer, driving seniors to their medical appointments, sitting on the JP Neighborhood Council, delivering meals on wheels, doing bake sales and selling raffle tickets at the local school.  Camera pans to a close up of JP Mom’s tear streaked face. “Oh Gus, we failed to keep the Casey Overpass  here in good repair.  It’s just with all these kids and all the volunteer work that needs doing, there’s just not any time.” Gus softly whispers “ Well suppose you take us on a tour of this decrepit old bridge.”   Sniffling, JP Mom walks under the bridge “See here Gus , the cement is flaking off, the pigeon poop is caked on the side walk and all the street lights on this side are out.  We used to have time to tend the bushes and trees for DCR because you know they just can’t do it with their tight budget. But Gus, the last time we tried to prune the shrubs I looked over at my 4 year old calling “here kitty, kitty”, but Gus, it wasn’t a kitty – if you know what I mean.”  Gus –“This big ole bridge used to unite the community –but now folks call it a divider and an eyesore. Wow!  It’s so sad.” Gus gives her a hug and asks – “Can you show me what still makes this bridge so special to you?” to be continued. . .
