Four JP Gardeners are Finalists in the Mayor's Competition

Jamaica Plain gardeners have qualified in four different categories of the city-wide contest

Once again gardeners from the green neighborhood of Jamaica Plain have captured places among the finalists in Mayor Menino's 2012 Garden Contest. Four different categories shortlisted contestants from JP.

Launched 16 years ago as part of Mayor Menino’s citywide beautification initiative, the contest recognizes gardeners who have landscaped, planted flowers, trees, and shrubs, and, in the process, helped beautify Boston’s neighborhoods.

Walter Janulewicz's Centre Street garden qualified in category of Large Yard Gardens. Susan Mahoney's color and style carried her to the list of finalists in the Medium Yard category. Jamie Day's bright cascades of vines and flowers from the second floor deck of a classic triple decker qualified him as a finalist for the second year in the Porch, Balcony, Deck, or Window Box category. Myrna Balk's garden, which invites one to stroll from shade to sun in beauty, won her a place in the Senior Garden category.
