"Gentrification" – What does it mean for Jamaica Plain?

Displacement of one group by another? It has been happening in Jamaica Plain for decades. Find out how the dynamic of gentrification works and what it means for the future of Jamaica Plain.

Come hear an on Thursday, June 9 at . The panel includes:

• Curdina Hill, Executive Director of City Life/Vida Urbana, a grassroots community organization fighting evictions and foreclosures throughout Boston. She was involved as a facilitator during the Jackson Square Planning Initiative process, and earlier as a community activist on affordable housing issues.
• Michael Stone, Professor at UMASS Boston, who for more than 40 years has been involved in research, policy analysis, and advocacy on housing, living standards and participatory planning, working with local community groups, city and state agencies, and national advocacy organizations.
• Leslie Bos, Board President of JP Neighborhood Development Corp., working to ensure that Jamaica Plain remains a community that welcomes people from all backgrounds, providing safe, affordable housing and opportunities for economic success.

The panelists will offer their own reflections from decades of experience, and help provide an overview of the process known as “gentrification.” Q&A will follow.
