Get to Know Other Sustainable Business Leaders

Meet business, non-profit, academic and community leaders who care about building a socially just and environmentally sustainable economy at the SBN Sustainability Leadership Summit.

As the owner of a Jamaica Plain-based marketing company, I love to meet other local businesspeople who share my passion for building a socially just and environmentally sustainable economy. That’s why I’m looking forward to attending the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) of Massachusetts’ 2nd Annual Sustainability Leadership Summit on Friday, May 10 at UMass Boston.  If you’re a business owner (or non-profit, academic, or community leader), please join me there.

Although the event does feature some keynote speakers (I’m particularly looking forward to hearing Judy Wicks, founder of White Dog Café, a sustainable eatery in Philadelphia, and an incredible woman who's both a successful entrepreneur and a dedicated activist), and preplanned workshops, much of the day will be spent in small group sessions sharing ideas and developing action plans. The sessions will be formed using the Open Space format, where anyone can propose what they want to discuss, and if enough people are interested, they get together to talk.

One of the commitments rising out of last year’s summit that I’ve personally benefited from was the agreement to create a new SBN B2B Business Networking Group. This group meets monthly to network, learn about each other’s successes and challenges, and strategize about how we can help each other’s businesses  row. I’ve already formed or expanded several business relationships from the group in just the last few months. (For information on the next meeting on June 25, contact Taryn Johnson, taryn@sbnmass.org.)
