A field of schemes continues as the Casey Overpass (not) project drags on. In the latest game of the series, the green space and pedestrian teams have captured a 2 lane roadway advantage with the bike team sacrificing their JP Rozzie South Street bike lane “for the greater good”. The “aging in place” JP team has retrenched and refuses to go quietly from the field. Labeled as spoilers by some, celebrated as underdogs by many, they are a grizzled and seasoned team. Most claim at least a 20 year history in JP and have been here before. But the winner in this series is really Mass DOT. They didn’t want to build a bridge, they don't want to maintain a bridge and they banked on the public officials and the good voters keeping quiet while the unsuspecting commuters from away remained in the dark until it was too late. Mass Dot will take the series, throw responsibility for the parkway over to the bankrupt DCR to maintain and push commuter traffic into the neighborhoods where it belongs. Goodbye green, goodbye safe biking, goodbye efficient transit and hello to an empty field of dreams.
