Jamaica Plain Celebrates Pride

June is nationally recognized as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month and Jamaica Plain is participating in the celebration with 2 events.

Original Plumbing Party: Trans Pride

The men of Original Plumbing are heading to Boston to celebrate transgender pride at Jamaica Plain’s Midway Café. Katastrophe, one of the world’s only open transgender hip-hop performers will be featured at the party.

Micah, a singer/songwriter from Rochester, N.Y., will also be performing at the event.

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MPTC) is one of the sponsors of the event. The MTPC is dedicated to ending discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression.

JP Block Party

Jamaica Plain’s annual Pride block party will be held on Perkins street, from 12pm-7pm on June 12. Admission is $10 and is open to all ages. Proceeds from the food sales will benefit The Network/La Red, an organization dedicated to addressing domestic abuse in the LGBT community. This will be the second year in a row that the JP Block party will be donating proceeds to The Network/La Red.

This year’s Pride Week will be from June 3-12. The theme is “Equality: No More, No Less.”
