Massive Yard Sale to Raise Money for Local Youth!

A Jamaica Plain fundraiser to benefit local youth, and offer great summer experiences.

Hey fellow JPers:

This Saturday, June 4, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, there will be an awesome yard sale at 4 Adelaide Street in Jamaica Plain.  So far, 6 families are participating (and hopefully more will join!).   We will be selling clothing, furniture, housewares, gardening stuff, art, frames, baby/toddler clothes, toys, electronics, and more!

Half of all proceeds are going to be donated to DREAM (Directing through Recreation, Education, Adventure, and Mentoring), a youth mentoring organization, who will be using the money to provide enriching Summer programming for local youth.

DREAM is a unique and innovative organization that has created a new model for mentoring aptly titled “Village Mentoring.”  Dream's approach is revolutionary in its specific concentration, toolkit of complimentary programming, and its desired outcomes for children.  Village Mentoring represents a shift from traditional one-on-one mentoring to a more community oriented approach that engages both the individual child and the entire community of children and families living in affordable housing. Once a week, while colleges are in session, mentoring pairs gather on college campuses for a variety of group and one-on-one activities.

During the summer months, DREAM hires community interns to deliver eight weeks of programming in each of the communities that they work with.   Whether programming on-site in their community, hiking, swimming, or attending local events, DREAM provides youth with a chance to learn and grow during the summer months. This summer, DREAM's efforts will be focused on providing enriching and empowering programming to children living in Orchard Gardens, Madison Park Village, and Putnam Gardens, three project-based, low-income housing communities located in the Greater Boston Area, with a goal of reaching 90 youth!

For every $80 we raise, one child will get an amazing Summer experience!
