and each celebrated 30 years in business last Thursday with parties inside their South Street stores, in the tennis courts on the corner of Carolina Ave, and even on the roof! Directly above the corner entrance to Fresh Hair, Hilken Mancini & Buffalo Tom & friends first played a set of acoustic music, followed by local bands Shelterbelt and Needy Visions. The music could be heard from three blocks away, drawing hundreds of people to the area. Even the police officer who dropped by was rocking out!
Ferris Wheels friends and employees showed off some trick bicycle riding just a few feet from the barbeque. State Representative Liz Malia and State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz presented Joy Silverstein of Fresh Hair and Jeffrey Ferris of Ferris Wheels with congratulatory citations from the state legislature. City Councilor Matt O'Malley also came by to extend his best wishes.
Inside Fresh Hair, people got feather extensions in their hair and waited in line to get henna tattoos by local artist Sue Murad. All this was in conjunction with First Thursday so Fresh Hair also sponsored an opening for the serenely beautiful watercolors of Rachel Wood. There were more art openings at the and next door. The yummy home-brewed beer from Two Tun Brewery kept the party going until after 10pm. The entire block was alive!
