Bullet Grazes 8-year-old In JP

This weekend police said a drive-by shooting sent one little girl to the hospital.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA — An 8-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet after someone drove by a Jamaica Plain street just after midnight Saturday and shot off 15 rounds, according to Boston police.

The little girl was sent to the hospital and was expected to be released on Monday, according to the Associated Press. Boston Police Commissioner Evans told reporters a dark gray Infiniti vehicle was seen fleeing the scene after the shooting and encouraged anyone with info on that shooting to call the anonymous tip line.

Children should not have to worry about getting shot, the Associated Press reported Evans said.

Police were called to Heath Street's Bromley-Heath housing complex just after midnight for a report of aggravated battery, according to the police log. The Boston Globe reported the girl was was outside with her family when the car came by and let off the rounds. A number of residents told the Globe this was about the third shooting there in the past year.

This comes just a couple weeks after police who were attending a community gathering at the South Street Housing Development on Rose Street when officers were alerted to a disturbance around the corner at 21 Saint Rose Street where they encountered a man with a bloody nose holding two guns, one in each of his hands and looking agitated.

The man told police he had a score to settle with two individuals who had jumped him in the presence of his 2-year-old son.

"While empathizing with the suspect’s embarrassment and anger, officers, nevertheless, were quick to implore and advise him to put down the weapons. Nobody needed to get hurt, said the officers," according to Police.

Commissioner Evans praised the police for keeping calm here. “They kept their cool and found a way to de-escalate and diffuse an incident that clearly had the potential for deadly consequences. All I can say is thank God nobody was hurt and, just as importantly, thank God we have some of the brightest and best trained police officers in the country.”

The Jamaica Plain man was slated to be charged with firearm related offenses, although there's no word on whether he will press charges against his alleged assailants.
