City Council Election — As It Happened
All four at-large incumbents defended their seats. You can scroll through the day's events leading to the surprising (to some, at least) top finish by City Councilor Ayanna Pressley.
Today voters will choose a new City Council. There are bound to be several returning faces, as some district councilors face no competition — for instance, District Six Councilor Matt O'Malley, who represents JP and West Roxbury.
But for at-large councilors, the stakes are much higher. Seven people are running, including four incumbents. But former city councilor and mayoral candiate Michael Flaherty is running again for an at-large seat. That's putting pressure on the four incumbents. Someone may be out of a job after the votes are counted tonight.
