City Council Sworn In
Mayor Thomas Menino swore in the 2012 City Council at historical Faneuil Hall on Monday morning.
A crowd of more than 400 looked on as Mayor Thomas Menino swore in the City Council Monday morning. The City Council election was held in November.
The ceremony had all the usual pomp and circumstance, including a brass band from Boston Latin and a booming version of the national anthem by city employee Dana Whiteside.
The loudest applause of the morning came when Menino introduced the only new City Councilor, Frank Baker of District 3. Supporters of Baker went wild at the spectacle of Menino, who had put his machine's strength behind Baker's opponent, John O'Toole, introducing Baker.

Maureen Feeney, who was Baker's predecessor as city councilor from District 3, presided over the ceremony as the newly-chosen city clerk. City councilors hired Feeney in a process that has been criticized for being tilted in favor of their colleague.
In November's vote, all four at-large incumbents kept their seats. City Councilor Ayanna Pressley won the most votes, making a strong showing after many had predicted she would be out of a job. Pressley, Felix Arroyo, John Connolly and Stephen Murphy edged former City Councilor Michael Flaherty, who placed fifth and out of the running.
