City Officials to Talk JP Library Renovations Wednesday

Residents and community members are encouraged to attend and provide input.

Officials will gather Wednesday to discuss proposed renovations to the Jamaica Plain branch of the Boston Public Library

Residents and community members are encouraged to attend and participate in the design phase of the project and provide feed back to Utile, the project architect. The meeting will run from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the library, located at 12 Sedgwick St. in Jamaica Plain. Officials kicked off the design phase of the project in a meeting last month.

City officials approved an $8.5 million loan order for the project last June, and it entails the full renovations of the library. Renovations will include improved accessibility, electrical, shelving, restructuring of bathrooms, better utilization of the mezzanine level and a teen reading room.

About $200,000 was approved for spending in 2014 to cover design and early construction, and future funding, or the $8.5 million, is projected for fiscal years 2015 to 2018.
