Commissioner Evans: Boston 'Should be Outraged' by Pool Shooting

Gunfire erupted Monday near the Melnea Cass Swimming Pool. Police Commissioner Evans passed out ice cream there Tuesday.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, along with other officers, returned to the site of a Roxbury shooting to share ice cream with community members in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard Tuesday.

On Monday, gunfire erupted on a memorial tribute to a murder victim. The shots happened to ring out near a public pool loaded with kids.

On Tuesday, Evans showed up to the very location, at Washington Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, which is located close to the Jamaica Plain boarder. He spoke with community members in an effort to uncover tips to help solve the crime.

“The city should be outraged when kids feel threatened. We all need to step up. We’re here to make a statement: Come back to the park, feel safe, feel secure,” Evans told the Boston Herald.

While discussing the recent surge in violence, Evans passed out free cups of J.P. Licks ice cream outside the Melnea Cass Swimming Pool.

Police confirm 10 shots were fired Monday during a funeral service for 20-year-old Angel Oller. Nobody was struck by the gunfire. Oller was shot to death in Egelston Square last week.

“We’re going to take back this pool, we’re going to take back this park, and people should feel safe coming out,” Evans added.
