District 6: Ryan places third, endorses Hennigan
Ryan took 8 percent of a five-way vote in Tuesday's preliminary election to fill the City Council district seat that represents JP and West Roxbury.
Sean Ryan took third place in Tuesday's preliminary election to fill the District 6 City Council seat. That means the JP resident won't be in the final election Nov. 16 between top vote-getter Matt O'Malley and runner-up Jim Hennigan.
After a post-election party at Doyle's Ryan complimented the two winners.
"I just want to congratulate Jim and Matt. They both ran great campaigns," Ryan said. "I have respect for both of them, so I hope that the remainder of the race stays substantive and clean just like it has been."

O'Malley took home 53 percent of the vote (3,827 votes), while Hennigan took 30 percent of the vote (2196 votes), according to unofficial election results on the Boston's Elections Department site.
The Nov. 16 election determines who will be the next city councilor for Jamaica Plain. The seat also represents WestRoxbury, and a little bit of Roslindale and Mission Hill.

Ryan finished third with 8 percent (611 votes); then came Kosta Demos with 4 percent (349 votes); and Chun-Fai Chan finished fifth with 2 percent (196 votes).
Ryan gave Hennigan a boost by announcing he would endorse Hennigan.
"Sean called to let me know he'll be telling the Globe that he endorses my candidacy and that he'll work hard to ensure that I'll be elected four weeks from now," Hennigan told a crowd at his get-together at West on Centre.
